Barcelona Hotels

This innovative, diverse city is located on the northeast coast of the peninsula along the Mediterranean Sea. Barcelona is the capital of the Catalonian region, as well as the province of Barcelona. Although Spanish is the official language in Spain, in the Catalonian region, Catalan is also recognized as the co-official language. Many tourists are drawn to the city because of its rich culture and it is very easy find cheap flights to Barcelona from all bigger European cities and most capitals worldwide. There is also the draw that it is situated 160 km south of the Pyrenees and the French-Spanish border, plus, Barcelona revels in its 4.5 km of coastline, with seven beaches. It was the home to several impressive works done by the world renowned architects, Antoni Gaud and Lluis Domenech i Montaner. The city also has a wide range of parks, several walking streets in the old part of the city, and numerous attractions to visit.

Where to Stay

Barcelona is a small city, so you can really stay anywhere, but in our opinion, the very best area to stay in Barcelona is near Plaza Catalunya. We would recommend to be on Plaza Catalunya or just 1 or 2 blocks from Plaza Catalunya but outside the old city rather than inside it. The old city is a charming and quaint to visit, but also a little more crowded and noisy to stay in. So, a hotel or apartment just outside the edge of the old city is the perfect place to stay in Barcelona in our opinion. But of course if you want a little more colour and culture then the old city is fine too.

How to Reach Your Hotel

Barcelona airport is the nearest and busiest airport to Barcelona city centre and receives more than 30 million visitors each year. The airport has 2 terminals: Terminal 1 (abbreviated to T1) and Terminal 2 which has 3 separate buildings called T2A, T2B and T2C. A Taxi offers a low-cost and convenient way to get to the city centre. From Terminal 2 (T2A , T2B and T2C) - the fare is around €25.00 and the journey takes around 25 - 30 minutes (depending on traffic). From Terminal 1 a taxi takes about 30 - 35 minutes to the city centre and costs around €30.00 The Aerobus is the express bus service that runs regularly between the airport and the city centre. If you are going to Terminal 1 you will need to catch the A1 Aerobus - this journey takes 25 - 30 minutes. If you are going to Terminal 2 you will need to catch the A2 Aerobus - this journey takes 30 - 35 minutes. Both buses look the same, but have different numbers on the front of the bus. The cost for the Aerobus service from both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 is €5.90 for a single and €10.20 for a return journey (the ticket is valid for 15 days ) Trains from the Airport: The RENFE train will take you from Barcelona airport to the city centre where you can change for the metro system at either Barcelona Sants (Sants Estacio) or Passeig de Gràcia stations. Tickets €3.80 . Journey time is about 25 minutes. The Train station is based at T2 in-between T2A and T2B therefore if you are arriving at T1 and want to catch the RENFE train into the town centre you will need to catch the airport shuttle bus to the Train station at T2 first.
